Meet Gary Shields, Owner of Gary's Woodfire Pizza!

History: Gary grew up in North Bay Ontario, he could be frequently found in the kitchen with his mom. The cooking bug got him early, he was only 11 years old when he starting making coleslaw for Teks seafood. You might remember Gary as he opened and ran The Route 6 Cafe in Cherryville BC in 2004. In 2011 Gary and his wife Kathi started, Yukennii, A Taste of Japan, in Lumby BC, serving delicious Japanese cuisine. Besides Gary’s love of cooking and great, quality food, he has been a helicopter mechanic for 35 years.

 

How Gary met woodfired pizza

In 2015 while working as a helicopter mechanic Gary experienced eating delicious wood fired pizza from Pemberton Wood Fired pizza. This sparked his interest into a different direction. Gary set out to build a wood fired mobile concession trailer.  In 2017 the trailer was complete and business began! The first year Gary’s Woodfired Pizza served Lumby at the Wednesday Night Market, dances, parties and roadside in Cherryville. In 2018 Gary’s Woodfired Pizza served Kal Beach in Coldstream BC, running the concession building with our wood fired trailer right on the beach!

Where can you find Gary and his wood fired pizza?

Starting May 15, 2019 Gary’s Woodfired Pizza will be back in Cherryville at our new location, the iconic Gold Panner Café, where we are hoping to spend many years.   We use compostable and recyclable containers, and source local and fresh quality ingredients that will keep you coming back. Gary’s Woodfired Pizza, making mouth watering pizzas and more!
